Wayfair EDI and Dropship Requirements: A Supplier Guide
Wayfair sells a very wide range of home goods. This guide covers the documents suppliers commonly exchange for Wayfair, how dropship changes the picture and where to find the requirements for your own account.
Connecting to Wayfair
Suppliers can exchange data with Wayfair by EDI, and some use API connections instead. Which route fits depends on your systems and your team, and Wayfair sets the options available to your account. Our comparison of EDI vs. API explains the trade-offs.
Documents suppliers commonly exchange
Our Wayfair trading partner page lists the transactions Spring Systems supports for Wayfair connections. The core transactions on that list are:
- 850 Purchase Order: the order from Wayfair.
- 856 Advance Ship Notice: your notice of what is shipping.
- 810 Invoice: your request for payment.
- GS1-128 shipping labels: the barcoded labels for your cartons.
The page also lists the 846 Inventory Advice, the 855 Purchase Order Acknowledgment and the 860 Purchase Order Change, among other transactions. Treat it as a list of what Spring can handle, not as the set of documents Wayfair will require from you. Wayfair decides which of them apply to your account.
Dropship and inventory
In a dropship program, you ship each order directly to the end customer. In that model, inventory accuracy matters because orders arrive one at a time and depend on what you have said is available. Read more in our guide to dropship EDI and inventory feeds.
Confirm your scope inside Wayfair
Wayfair sets the documents you must exchange, and the exact fields in each, for each supplier inside its Partner Home portal. Check your account there before you build or change anything.
