Nordstrom EDI Requirements: A Supplier Guide

Selling to Nordstrom means exchanging a set of standard EDI documents, from the purchase order that starts the cycle to the invoice that ends it. This guide sets out what Spring supports for Nordstrom and where to find the rest of the requirements.

The documents involved

Our Nordstrom trading partner page lists the core transactions Spring Systems supports for Nordstrom connections:

• 850 Purchase Order: the order your buyer sends you.
• 856 Advance Ship Notice (ASN): your notice of what is in a shipment before it arrives.
• 810 Invoice: your request for payment.
• GS1-128 shipping labels: the barcoded labels on your cartons.

It also lists additional transactions, including the 855 Purchase Order Acknowledgment, the 860 Purchase Order Change, the 846 Inventory Advice, the 820 Payment Order and Remittance Advice, and the 997 Functional Acknowledgment. Treat this as a list of what Spring can handle, not as the set of documents Nordstrom will require from you. Nordstrom decides which of them apply to your account.

Routing and shipping labels

The same page includes the 753 Request for Routing Instructions and the 754 Routing Instructions. Where a retailer controls the freight on your orders, the supplier asks for routing with a 753 and the retailer answers with a 754 that names the carrier, so find out early whether your shipments are routed.
